What are the benefits of pregnancy yoga?
Pregnancy yoga with MummyYoga will provide you with natural tools to support your mind and body throughout your pregnancy. It will help build your strength and stamina, and teach you postures to keep your hips and pelvis limber. You will experience deep soothing relaxation, and you will learn “take away” breathing and relaxation techniques that you can use to release tension, manage pain and improve your sleep through pregnancy, labour and beyond.
Do I need to have done yoga before to go to a pregnancy yoga class?
No. MummyYoga classes is suitable for all ladies who are 14 weeks pregnant and beyond. So whether you can headstand in lotus whilst chanting om or haven’t properly exercised in years I hope you find strength and comfort in these classes.
I’m pregnant. When can I start pregnancy yoga?
It is recommended that you start once you reach 14 weeks pregnant. If you had any problems earlier in your pregnancy please do check with your doctor before doing yoga or any other exercise.
Why do I need to wait till the second trimester?
Your body will be adapting to pregnancy and you will be advised to see how you feel and let your body adjust before joining. If you are used to exercising, feeling well and not seen as ‘high risk’ (at risk of miscarrying or have any other health concerns) then gentle stretching, walking, swimming and other activities will be fine to continue.
How much do the classes cost?
There are various options to pay for your class, ranging from a single class pass to a 6 month pass. You can book all classes online. If you are using a smartphone then the easiest way is to download the mindbody app and search for MummyYoga classes on there. You can purchase classes, schedule and reschedule all your classes via the app.
What do I need to bring to class?
Just yourself. No need for trainers, we practice in socks or bare feet.
MummyYoga classes are equipped with yoga mats, blocks, straps and plenty of cotton and bean cushions and bolsters filled with scrumptious organic buckwheat husk farmed under strict EU organic certification regulations.
Our mats are Oeko-Tex 100 certified; free from nasty chemicals you find in cheap PVC products. Made to strict standards in Germany – No phthalate, no latex, no phenols, no heavy metals, no toxic dyes…and so no nastiness to inhale!! This is especially important to consider when you are pregnant as research shows that cheap plastic, PVC can disrupt hormonal balance, not what you want whilst pregnant!
What should I wear?
Comfortable, loose fitting clothing that allows you to move freely and stretch. Please do dress in layers that you can put on or strip off during those moments of hot flushes.
Should I eat before the class?
Please avoid a heavy meal two hours before class. Keep hydrated and have a light snack as needed.
I am worried about my age and level of fitness.
This is not a problem – you will be working within your limits and there is no competition. Pregnant women of all ages and levels of fitness benefit from the classes and make new friends.
Do you teach privately? How does that work?
Yes for those of you after a more personal experience I offer private tuition. I can come to your house and this is generally £35/hour if you live within 5 miles of Chester city. There is an additional charge of £8/15 min for travel outside of the 5 mile radius. This includes travel expenses and time needed for the travel. If you would like to get together with a friend then private tuition for two people are at £40/hour or for three people £45/hour. I bring all the equipment with me and plenty of handouts for you to read and use after my classes. This will allow you to be confident in your practice after the tuition. I am able to make plenty of personal recommendations and variations based on your individual circumstances during private tuition, something that can be a challenge in a group class.
Will the classes help me in birth preparation?
Yes on both a psychological and physical level the yoga helps women prepare for birth. MummyYoga classes are specifically designed to support the journey from pregnancy into birth and beyond. The pranayama (breathing) techniques and asanas (postures) are all designed to empower you during labour. The strength you gain from your physical postures will enable you to embrace the intense physical aspect of the birthing process. The breathing techniques will help release your inhibitions and allow you to respond to your body in a clam and relaxed manner.
What can I do after the birth?
Firstly, please let us know your news! You can come to the “Bliss Out Mummy” class to relax and restore your energies. This runs every Sunday morning from 10.00 am till 11.00 am and is a good place to catch up with the friends you made at your antenatal class.
